What is Zen?

Zen is Now.

Zen is not the word "Zen."

Zen is not the idea or concept of "Zen."

Zen is Now.

Just Now.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Zen is Now.

The meaning of this video is that the essence of what we call Zen is not in the word, concept, or idea of "Zen." Rather, the essence of Zen is in direct, unconditioned experience of reality in the present moment, unclouded by intrusive thoughts, false ideas, assumptions, and delusions. Zen is right now, as it is appearing, without the interference or mediation of the mind's concepts, including the ever-present concept of self. This video is Zen. The computer screen is Zen. The world is Zen. You are Zen - but you are not truly separate from anything else. We do not become one with the Infinite - we become none with it.

But Zen is not any of the words above. Zen is Now.

  • If zen is now, then what is the opposite of zen?

That which is not now? And where does that which is not now exist? In the mind, as thought forms.

  • Right. That which is not now exists in our imaginations, which is where we spend most of our time unless we remain attentive to the moment.

  • Brilliant pointer. But what is now? Certain teachers speak of the now. It is realized that there is no teacher and no student. Their is only the teaching. However what is the now? Now itself is a concept attemping to descibe what is. So You could also say that zen is seeing what is as it is. Bahaha how worthless all these words. Keep the videos coming.

  • Yes, "now" is a concept pointing to the non-conceptual direct experience of reality. But isn't that just another concept? Yes, because it is impossible to say anything without using language, and language involves concepts.

Don't focus on the word "now," focus on what it points to. I'd say focus on "direct experience," except that is another concept, and simply another pointer. Look beyond the finger pointing to the moon, and see the moon itself.

    Zen is what is.

  • zen is a word

  • Brothers and sisters... lol You are all trying to define Zen when in fact, trying to define it is like trying to fit both your' feet up your nose! Keep quiet and don't let anybody see you with your' pants down!!

  • Zen is intuition expressed as action at the same moment as it occurs. No thinking about it, just doing, cause you think about something that already happened, and you need time to think, and in that time new intuitions of the current moment will pass by.

  • @1zenAwhile Stop thinking.

  • Perfect expressions. My thanks.

  • @1zenAwhile There cannot be an opposite to zen, because zen is both the manifestation of the Universe and the Universe itself.

  • hey, "IAmNotMyThoughts" put a video response, where is it?

  • where are you "IAMNotMyThoughts"?
