  • absolutely wonderful!

  • @JonathanAschalew

    thank you sir!

  • on this tune i was tuned western style, B E A D G. i also play with high C instead of low B. i'm currently in India taking lessons.

a nice tuning will be D A D A D (i tried it before), but mainly i play with western tuning. strings gauge make a difference.

    enjoy!

  • @lampcollective

That's great, thank you so much.

If you're interested, a nice way to create sympathetic strings for the bass is to place a standard 6-string electric or electroacoustic guitar in front of your bass amp, with the guitar outputting to it's own amp.

If you have the strings on the guitar tuned to resonant frequencies in the raga, you'll find you generate lovely drones and swells. A treble-y sound on the bass amp helps.

    Thanks again.

  • @youshouldneverthrowa

    thanks.

do you have it on video of this guitar in front of bass amp?

  • great!

  • @fireincair0

    thank you!

  • pure talent

  • this is what i was searching for!

it's true, this music on fretless is much better than on other western strings instruments.

eastern scales are perfect on fretless

really good sounds! i like it a lot

  • I love how your account is named 'lampcollective' when you have this ugly lamp behind you. =P

I'm afraid not, I don't have a video camera! I just use a guitar stand and try to get the guitar as close as possible to the bass amp without the strings touching it. Both the bass amp and the guitar amp need to be pretty loud. Can take a little bit of playing with the amp settings to get the resonance clear. When I get a video made, I'll let you know.

  • Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me what tuning you use, in this video at least?

I've just started learning Hindustani music from a sitar player and have been using my own fretless to experiment. I haven't figured a particularly good tuning.

So far I've just been using low to high: C-G-G-C-G with C being my Sa. I noticed that you play with Sa as A. Any suggestions for choosing a useful tuning?

  • I just listened to your songs on Myspace, I think it would be really interesting to fuse stuff like this with something like Yet Another. It would make for some really interesting music. Just my 2 cents.

Really nice solo by the way, very calming.
