  • @siuwed They were hoping it would bring riders in from adjacent burbs, but it would have stopped at 8 mile. Drawing in certain suburbanites they were hoping would be just a side effect, something that would happen by default. Also certain municipalities in oakland country were actually for it and hoping it would extend into their communities. Also at least 40% would be paid for by private dollars. ..........

  • @siuwed ..........Tax payers pay for stadiums and housing, why not help with transit that in the future could help more than just detroit, but the region ?

  • @steelflame1 But yet the congresswoman or whatever she is says it's to bring people in from the suburbs to help commerce blah blah blah. Like the truth is not obvious. Again, let the good taxpayers of Detroit pay for this if they want it, just another handout.

  • Well one more thing lol. Trains A. will most likely have fewer stops though more strategic stops. B. Have their own right away which = safer and faster. C. Be cleaner towards the environment. And D. Probably have less maintenance issues which = less breakdowns which = less holdup & headaches along with what could be cheaper fair. Detroit used to have 300 miles of streetcar track and the system worked just fine and better than todays buses.

  • I will add one more thing and shut up for now. Yes detroit has crime, and that is a crime issue while this subject is a transit issue mainly. There will always be crime in areas across this nation, so what do we do, shut down transit through areas and wait for social and or economic issues to fix themselves without any aid at all until we start or reopen the transit systems ?........

  • ....... Why not shut down transit through certain areas of new york, l.a., chicago, or even highways in our nation that are known drug corridors ?

  • I'll try to make yhis clearer, it's like "we have 10 issues and fixing 1 is not going to be a magic pill for all 10 so it's not worth fixing that one" "Nevermind that that 1 fixed issue might at least help fix another issue in the future". Detroit wants a magic pill that fixes everything at once or nothing at all it seems like. Dammit detroit you have to start somewhere and work on the individual issues one at a time, and then the individual solutions can aid each other in the big picture.

  • Detroit has a "let's shoot ourself in the foot" attitude by saying "we have issues so why even try to take a step with one of our issues in the right direction. " "Let's dwell on what is wrong instead of what we need to start fixing what's wrong and stick with an ill bus system, and then ironically whine about that in future reports after we shot down the idea of improvement on the transit system" You see the idiocy going on here people ?

  • @steelflame1 Also, nobody said that a train is THE answer to all of detroits issues, but since detroit is still a large city that is still largely dependent on a transit system why not replace the current system that doesn't work well ? At the same time transit IS one of the cornerstones of bringing traffic and money to communities and though again, it's not the sole solution, but a move in the right direction.

  • @siuwed The rail is to mainly help detroiters who live in or around the corridor and who use and need a better transit system. And despite the crime some people especially younger people would still cross 8 mile from some of the adjacent inner ring burbs to ride downtown. Some already do and will more often if they have a better choice of transit.
