My old home was shot numerous times by 5" cannon. This is her on fire.

She sank that night (July 11, 2008); it took a lot to sink her.

  • Ships used in pearl harbor movie?

  • No, FAR too modern to be in a movie about Pearl Harbor.

  • USS Samuel B. Roberts is not the sister ship she is Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate and Dr Ray is a Spruance class DESTROYER ---

  • Wow, I didn't notice that comment that an OHP is sistership of the DRR...

  • Why would they sink all these ships? Don't get it. They look to be tought ships!

  • Tougher than most other countries' navies but not up to US Navy standards.

  • Kill Roy now sits on the bottom of the oceian Kill Row was in the aft unassign space that Engerning used for storage. I should know as I drew him on the foward wall (bulkhead) of that space,& then mounted some cabinets for storage.

  • Another spruance class being sunk

  • @TedinLasVegas actually if you watch the movie Pearl Harbor made in 2001 they use several modern ships that were made to 'look' old. Especially when the scene shows several destroyers tied up together exploding. It was actually just Hollywood special effects explosives being detonated on active duty ships in Pearl. They look impressive but cause no damage

  • @TedinLasVegas But they did use some modern frigates/destroyers for a few scenes though. They can be seen tied up to each other whilst being bombed.

  • @TedinLasVegas They did indeed use obviously moth-balled Spruance-class destroyers in the back ground of that idiotic piece of crap. They even rigged one for explosions, and used that same sequence from different angles to portray different ships exploding.

  • @OverlordShamala The Spruance Class destroyers were originally built for the Shaw (sic) of Iran. That was before he was removed from power as the leader of Iran. When he was overthrown, we had seven(?) ships in different stages of completion, that we weren't going to hand over to the new leadership of Iran. We just absorbed them into our own Navy. They were a very good ship, but they were always just excess ships. Kinda like a red-headed stepchild of the Navy. Really too bad. Great ships.

  • I am so pleased to hear she hung on for a while. I miss her. I was on the Ray from early 86 to mid 87.

  • BB would have done a much more effective job. Not impressed.

  • @TedinLasVegas I think he means the 2001 version (which is pretty crappy except for the CGI) where they have a lot of Spruances lined up with explosives because... well, they were in reserve at Pearl and Bruckheimer wanted to use them.

  • How deep do they sink these old ships?
