  • Just did this on my 2003 Windstar. Good video and very helpful details. Took me about 30 minutes to swap the units out. I took the old actuator apart and found the small gear had some teeth striped out. The guys at Autozone say these fail all the time. My wife has heat again and is very happy about that.

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. You Rock! Changing this bad part was made a lot easier after seeing how you did it. I felt like I knew exactly what I had to do, and the whole job was done in less than a half an hour. For those who are afraid to do this, it's really simple. Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong! I did it in my garage in 32 degree temps, and it went fine. Thanks again!

  • @jonreyna Awesome video. Just completed the job in less tan 50$ and about 2 hours it same some money. now that i'm not working. MUCHAS GRACIAS

    mig

  • When taking the radio out, you have to pull the removal tools apart, each one toward

    its respective door.

After I bought a replacement($81 at Ford dealer), I decided to take the old one apart. Turns out it was fairly easy. Just had to keep poping\working the tabs up with a screw driver. Found

out what was wrong. The gear that connected the driver motor and actuator control arm came

loose (that's why I was hearing the clicking sound) and was very easy to popup back in place.

  • @DJSkuldChan yes. im getting ready to go out to the van to do this, same knock

  • Okay, question. I own a 2002 windstar. My heats stopped working in the front. And what I've noticed is that there's a weird "knock" about 1 to 1.5 seconds apart from each other coming from the dash. It sounds like it's dead center and behind the stereo, but not under the hood. When I switch it to A/C it sounds like something changes, but it's the same knocking sound with a slightly different tone. Would this be that same part?

  • This video is awesome. Bought the part at AutoZone for less than $40 and the radio tool at Walmart. I held the light for my husband while he did this repair. It might have taken him 30 minutes, but less I think. Now, I have heat! Thank you for this video. It made the repair a breeze for my husband.

  • I fought the stupid radio to get it out too. Radio has to come out to get the top screw on the actuator. But - I did the project by taking out the bottom console (remove two screws each side) and reaching in from the bottom to get the other two screws. Either way, it's not THAT bad of a job, and better than using the rear heater all winter.

  • when you say plug in the new one and turn on the ignition... you mean plug the cable in to the actuator and turn the engine on? and that would adjust the tap same with the old one? did i get it right? =) damn ford charging me for 500$ for this..=D

  • Awesome video. Just completed the job with the laptop and this video in the seat next to me. The only thing I would add is that when it came to turning on the ignition to get the tap to spin, I had to turn my AC on. Turning on the heat didn't turn it. Once the AC was on, it indeed moved. Second, when you push the new acuator into place, there's a slight "clunk" as the tap pushes in. You WILL KNOW when you have it right. Thanks again jonreyna!
