This started as a quickly made video while I was at the Range recently. I wanted to add a little more insight to it later on hints the one on one interview after the initial video. Sighting your weapon in with systems such as the Caldwell Lead Sled are fantastic. Especially for individuals like me who have shoulder that have been surgically repaired or who suffer from pending shoulder injuries. These systems reduce recoil and make it much easier on the shooter to spend a day at the Range sighting in their weapon and not be regretting it later.
The Lead Sled is a fantastic piece but in my personal opinion its only good for so much. I can get an ok grouping with systems like these, but I find that I am able to dial my weapons into much tighter groups simply using a few sandbags. This is because there are less parts to move. As opposed to having 5 parts that anchor, raise, and level the weapon, using sandbags allows the shooter to only have one point of contact upon the weapon that is only affected my the shooter. Systems like the Lead Sled are all capable of altering a pattern if any of the before mentioned parts that anchor, raise, and level the weapon come loose and allow the weapon to move. Using sandbags rewuires that the shooter must be aware of how they are shooting the weapon. In order to get a good zero using sandbags, a shooter must try an recreate the same shot. By this I mean that they must follow their same details or shooting mechanics every time. Trigger pull, sight alignment, grip, and breathing must all be focused on. This may sound tedious to some and it may be. It also may be more time consuming, however the benefit of spending the extra time on the range to really dial in a weapon with a solid zero is something I highly appreciate. More than that I feel it is our responsibility as Hunters and Shooters to maintain high standards for ourselves so as to show others who may doubt our sport or hobby that we are safe and responsible.
