90 miillion in aid for housing .So stop pissing and moaning about how bad things are. Its the same on all reservations, the money trail ends at the band office ....the money ends up with the chief , his family and friends the rest get nothing. When that money is gone they cry for more ...Its about accountability nothing more . Ive seen it on the reserve I grew up next to ..and nothing has changed since.

I think you should change your title to " Our Chiefs Don't Care About Us"

Miigwetch...great video. In response to SrcubBeiber, your gathering of information and facts needs to be improved upon. Government makes promises at every turn in the road but do they follow through with all of them? And would they be sharing facts with the voting constituents that would look unfavorably on elected officials? NO & NO. Don`t believe everything government feeds you, obviously the government funded education they have promised you is lacking in grammatical structure.

@TwilightFalls Did you know that the Canadian Human Rights Code DID NOT apply on Reservations until April 2011? So who/where were we suppose to complain to all this time? PROTESTS that the general public would jump up and down and claim 'them Indians are always complaining about something'
AND as far as Matrimonial Rights is just currently on the table for Parliament to DISCUSS not pass the law/amendment to the Indian Act to allow women this basic right in Canada. Again where to complain?

@ScrubBeiber101 we actually got 9000 / year...not 70000..DeBeers does not give our reserve any money...it goes to the Ontario Gov... the Zamboni was purchased on money raised from bingo's and other fundraising initiatives by the community... please get the facts... not what the gov wants you to know...they just want you to know the facade they put forth on this issue to save face...

Great Heart felt video, well done!

The only change we can start with is educating our people to speak their truth and start standing up for what they believe in. We also need to start putting our own people into those government positions and it begins with us and me today. We have lived under their thumb long enough, I am Deni, meaning person and I live off the land like I was taught. A six generation to first contact, so I need to teach my children how to survive today's world and teach them about our land and what it holds.

It's about time that the Canadian Government and the American Government do something for these people. What is it that you are afraid of?? You must be afraid of something since you are in the need of keeping these people down. Why can't you just accept them?? Why aren't they helped when natural disasters hits their communities? Why are they hidden away? What have they ever done to you? Enough is enough and these people deserve help and acceptance!!

I'm not being rude but if this video is at all related to the current state of Attawapiskat. You might want to re-name this video. Im not a racist nor am I a rich spioled white kid... but when the government gives a comunity of 1800 people 34 million dollers a year and an avridge or 70,000$ dollers per household there, let alone the 42m De breers give them every year and instead of rebilding the school they buy a hocley rink and zamboni take a look at the head council there.. what are they doing

NATIVEs ARE MAKING A STAND FROM THIS DAY FORWARD..we were here first before the invention of paper or ink...and i will gladly die for what i beleive in..

@SentientRaven with all this poverty on reserves and the rerserves are sitting on top of Natural resources worth in the millions why are Natives poor. The Natives should mine those resources themselves and employ nonnatives. And never mind the government they are a failure, as reality is revealing what the situation is on the resrves. And why are the Natives looking to the government when they are turning a blind eye..
-
To all on reserves this is just another sad sad cases of our Canadian Goverment FAILURE - the have money for all over the world but not our Country our friends famillies - - 80,000.000 million to a communist country CHINA but never you mind out of site out of mind hide the needy in Canada - - just in Ottawa Billions for a stuipid transit service and 200 million for a Library - - God I hope they or there famillies or future grand children never have to bare what these people have GOD Bless you a

@TwilightFalls That's the issue here, THEIR government is doing ALL they can. The money's there, it's just not getting to them. This is a breakdown between the federal and band council channels...plain old bureaucracy. Hopefully now that the media has taken this, moreso recently, something WILL be done! The rest of Canada hasn't forgotten you...we just didn't know! Beautiful video, it made me cry and now I'm going to start harassing OUR MPs to DO SOMETHING!!!! You all have my respect. <3

@Tonkadude1001 Sorry good sir but I will never stop being an Aboriginal person. It is my blood, it is my life, it is who I am. I don't have to stop being native to take responsibility for my life, none of us. It's the government that needs to be fixed. Not me, Not others like me, NOT my people! I am NOT afraid. I am BOLD. But I don't need to change who I am.
-
@SentientRaven ...guy has stated. WAKE UP! get a movement going (thats not my suggestion of course) but yeah. i hate to see people having to live like this because of our government...they're causing it....keeping you cut off. i dunno i say its time for uprising. i know it would be peaceful, that's what native people are about, not vilence...this is sick. it really is. im dontaing to the red cross tomorrow...please help
-
@SentientRaven agreed. i saw something on the news in halifax about attawpiskat and bawled my eyes out. like a baby. why dont these smart, creative, people stand UP and start the Native spring. Demand their asses off for change, protest, show the world, get it on not only CTV but BBC world, Aljazeera CNN, ABC (australian), NHK. start putting real pressure on ottawa. i would join them, id stand with them if they would do it!! come on, you guys dont deserve to be cut off from the wealth as this...
-
There needs to be a movie about this, there probably has been but one done by a big movie making company so that people seeee. Songs perfect too
-
i am appalled by the suicide rates. once i saw interviews with young inuit adults on al jazeera news mentioning that they lost their best friends. thus, it's sad, considering how beautiful they look.
-
the firsrt thing i want to say is, sorry.... it BS that you guys have to live like that....i heard on bbc radio the predicament you guys r in....i hope the gov't heres your crys and steps to the plate and does something to help...god bless u's

While aboriginal communities are economically separated from the rest of Canada, THEY WILL BE POOR.
The only way out of this mess is by opening up the economy to the reserves. Canada happens to have a spectacularly good economy (especially these days) and the reserves are cut off from all that wealth simply because investment and legal trade does not exist in the reserves.
Let's keep their political and cultural autonomy, but open up their economies to the rest of Canada!

1) Australia must be returned to native people,2)aboriginal language must be included as an official language and studied at schools, 3)the flag must be changed representing the true meaning of Australia,4)the truth about illegitimate existence of British Crown since Cook's arrival must be revealed and aboriginal ownership must be fully recognised and sealed,5)QEII must be removed from coins and banknotes,
6)life penalty must be applied for damages caused to aboriginal people by BritGovnt/Crown
It is important, yes to note, that many people sending negative comments don't have the full picture. I agree with both arguments, one that our governments need to be more accountable, and two that the overall Federal system has completely failed. However, it is clear from the comments I receive that many people don't have near enough background to comment. Ie. cost of doing business in a northern remote community, bureaucracy costs, history, etc. This is why only some comments make it.
