@viletree This rule of thumb, then, exposes a blatant violation of the Constitution, since there is no constitutional authority for politicians to regulate business the way they do. Keep government out of these things, as the framers intended, and they won't be able to sell any favors that corporations will want to buy. BTW, Lew Rockwell has a fantastic podcast on the LRC site today that explains exactly how this fascist/corporatist American state operates.

@rwalkenhorst I never said "has" to be I said its just a rule of thumb more or less, that governments will get involved of markets because they aren't productive like an individual. Of course politicians have something to sell that is there legislative power, if a corporation wants a monopoly or market protections to stifle growth there is always an incentive to buy one off.

@viletree You are presupposing that government has to be involved in economic matters. Sure, if politicians wave a piece of meat before businessmen, they’re going to go after it. But nobody can “buy a politician off” if he has nothing to sell, and the only way to accomplish that is to prohibit government from getting involved in commerce in the first place. You are correct that the only wealth government has is what it takes by force from productive people. What a pathetic thing it is.

@rwalkenhorst I would actually say that's a fundamental flaw of the marketplace. Wherever there is money involved governments and bureaucrats will want to get involved, governments don't draw any revenue except taxation- so if corporations get involved in the process which inevitably occurs because they buy politicians off to gain monopolies then you fuck it up for smaller business growth. There is no market remedy for this.

@BottleConcreteBlond The "protections we have" are precisely what make it possible for corporations to harm us. The big players in an industry will always write the regulations when government gets involved. This will never change, because there simply are not enough decent people attracted to politics. And isn't "falling into disrepair" exactly what we're constantly told government-owned stuff is doing? Private businesses that depend on their assets to make money do not let them deteriorate.

@rwalkenhorst Why would leftists want Ron Paul? He's a free market libertarian. He would take away all the protections we have against Corporations good and bad. He would allow infrastructure to be privatized or fall into disrepair which, once again, would allow corporations to gain control.
