This song is dedicated to Andy Smith original guitarist for Flux of Pink Indians and a very close friend of mine since 1979. We were both in Flux of pink indians touring up and down the U.K. sometimes supporting Rubella Ballet, sometimes Crass which were unforgetable expirences. Recording Neu Smell on Crass records was awesome with Penny from Crass producing and Andy and Neil getting guitar sounds that made your ears bleed, add my pounding drums, some fat bass from Derik and finally vocals from Colin...what have you got?...One of the best selling Anarcho Punk anthems ever! I have seen other super fast punk bands in different countries covering the song and the venue erupting into a chorus of "I WANT A TUBE DISASTER" etc....Priceless.
Sometime later I had to make a decision which band to play for as playing for two bands was becoming a nightmare to shedule, getting some gigs with Rubella Ballet headliningand Flux supporting so I had a 10 minute breather before launching into Rubellas set, those were the days.
Just after I left Flux Andy & Neil not liking the new drummer Colin had hired decided to join Rubella Ballet because they loved the tribal sound I got.
After Pete Fender left Rubella Ballet at the peak of their carreer to grow Noddy Holder style side burns Andy stepped in like a flash and we went on to write and record Ballet Bag by Rubella Ballet which sold out everywhere it was on sale, so we had to make more, loads more.
On tour Andy, Neil and Sid were an inseperable trio, some of the best times ever.
We will have great memories forever dear brother,
Rest in peace.
I hope God has the right amp and speakers for you mate along with everlasting strings.
