  • Why are people actually arguing in favor of resegregating the schools if the parents (and students) were happy with the way the schools were working while integrated???

  • @MuskratandRatman wrong, school is for much more than "getting information", and goes beyond purely academic success. School is also to teach people life skills, how to interact with other people, work as an individual and as a group, look into career fields, and how to grow as a person.

  • @willthacheerleader18

you don't get it! everybody has access to the same information. agreed that someone needs to help drive them. but in these poor economic times, NC cant afford to move kids around. All school is, is getting information. That's all it's for, not creating friendships. Luckily after these kids turn 18, they'll see plenty of diversity in the real world.

  • @MuskratandRatman all students should be given the equal opportunity. A huge part of a students will to succeed is a drive from another force. If their parents do not provide that drive, the teachers need to. I have seen students transformed by good teachers. While working with charities in New York, I saw how much the Nuns and the Church helped educate the poor at the Catholic Schools in the Poor, these schools have a 98% graduation rate and around a 88% college acceptance rate.

i don't think u understand quite how schools are funded. They are rewarded for success hence capitalism. Person High School once was the most funded school in NC but over time test scores went down. 4 years ago they couldn't afford paper. But now they are above state average. Plus Colleges don't look at your schools average they look at YOU! so if a student wants to succeed will try, and will go to college, community or public if they can't afford something like Duke.

  • @MuskratandRatman and sacrificing education is not a sufficient way to save money. More money will go to the wealthy schools, so who will help the schools in the poor neighborhoods hm? No one, they would be given up on.

  • @willthacheerleader18

no they view it as an easy way to save money. stop moving kids around. NC is broke and can't afford that. CLICK!! i just had an idea. how bout instead of trying to move some kids around in way that only benefits a few how bout just change the way schools are funded. the same people who have the right to decide where kids go can decide how much money a school recieves. although personally i believe money means nothing.

  • @MuskratandRatman the school board is viewing it as an easy way to separate the poor from the rich, to make rich people happy, to have better schools in wealthier neighborhoods. Diversity is very important. Averaging the schools up mixes students together who have so many differences, and they learn from these differences. I go to school with children of millionares, protstitutes, doctors, lawyers, teachers, garbage men, gay couples, homless children, etc. It is a very eye-opening experience.

  • @willthacheerleader18

obviously neighborhood schools isn't the easier way. u said it urself. so called worse teachers go to poor schools. the objective is to supply students with information. teachers everywhere should enforce. moving kids who have high grades out of their community doesn't help the kids who stay in their community with low grades. all it does is bring the average of that school up. which according to your argument that means the ones who have to move are suffering.

  • @MuskratandRatman yes, parents today can be a big problem, that is why the teacher's role is even more important. Let's look at it in a different way, if a minister is trying to teach kids, but they complain to their parents about the lessons being difficult or the minister's sermons boring, to strict with morals, etc and the parents complain, does the minister give up on them? No, quite the contrary. It takes hard work to fix education, not an easy way out (neighborhood schools).
