@marhot The trailer card at the end of the movie shows what happened to the cast (at least the male cast members, which is still a nagging point) , and all those events are 1965 or later. Since this scene is the last before the trailer card, the song is relevant.

SPOILER ALERT: In this scene at the end of American Graffiti John Milner has a Black tee shirt on, but for the rest of the film he wore the trademark white tee shirt with the obligatory cigarette pack rolled up in the sleeve. At 1:12 you're drawn to the way he has his back to the camera. Just before the credits roll at the end, 3we find out he dies a few years later, killed by a drunk driver.
