Universal meditation carried by an original sound design and a nervous, sometimes even theatrical, stretched to the limit choreographic language, telling us the sense of urgency, "Leviathan" stages human beings of an imaginary, timeless and doomed to disappear civilization (any resemblance is only coincidental ...), who give a last look at their surroundings : a glance alternately fun, distant, questioning, cynical, curious, restless, full of tenderness or anger, religious, incredulous.
Eric Oberdorff drew his inspiration from the masterpiece of Herman Melville, "Moby Dick", working on its symbolism, its humanistic and spiritual dimensions, and from Japanese spirituality - Shinto - that drives the guardians of water of Kyoto. He composed "Leviathan" as an allegory and a fable, in a stage design made of survival blankets and ice blocks which melt during the duration of the choreographic piece...
