  • I'd say it's more like walking around in circles, Haha. :P

  • Very nice but too restrained. English country dances always have a skipping step; so much livelier. No wonder everyone thinks that we're so stiff.

  • @TAN1tH1 LOL. Restraint was the name of the game in those days. There may have been some eye flirting, but this style of dance really wasn't designed to be sexy.

  • @GaryBancroft

"Always" have a skipping step? Excuse me, but they do not _always_ such a step. One could make a case for that being the exception. A good example is Well Hall--dating from 1701--which is flowing and graceful.

  • @hannahmontanachloe whereever you live if you search for English Country Dance you should be able to find a group of people who meet at a local hall to dance ECD. Good luck and have fun!

  • Dance! Get off the ground! Flirt! Put some sex into it!

YOUNG people did these dances and they did them for FUN. Is that what these people are doing? Convince me!

  • English country dancing! Where men and women can flirt with each other, be coy, suggestive (or not), show off their fine clothes (or not) and have fun, even WITH the local vicar present! I say this in admiration and I'm Dutch! :)

  • Susie, we call it "Stinkin' Billy" because of its reference to English royalty... it's a Scottish thing some of us have... :-)

  • I hate this dance! We call it "Stinkin' Billy"

  • If you're in New York City this summer, come to the 92nd Street Y. I will give a course, English Country Dancing from the Ground Up, for 6 consecutive Thursdays starting July 11.--CD*NY teacher Paul Ross
