Hard:edged emerged as from Berlin's industrial warehouses. It began as merely a name to the face of the first rate drum 'n' bass parties. The founders had set out to create an atmosphere for Berlin's drum "n" bass scene that would exhibit the music in it's purest form. Their combination of first rate sound and visual technology rendered hard:edged the most unique and stimulating addition the Berlin drumân bass scene had yet to see. It was not long before the word on hard:edged had crossed the channel and spread among some of the finest DJâs and MCâs in the UK. The high quality that defined hard:edged parties rapidly gained reputation in the UK and soon names like J. Majik, Bailey, Kemistry & Storm, MC Flux, Grooverider and Goldie became regular Contributors to hard:edged evenings. The positive support of these Uk artists, coupled with the undeniable talent of the hard:edged residents Metro, BassDee, Most Wanted, Bleed, Xplorer & MC White resulted as the perfect combination. Hard:edged soon became recognized as a synonym for Berlin's most ambitious and advanced component of the city's life by night.
It then became apparent, that the demand for hard:edged style drumân bass exceeded what the irregular warehouse parties could offer. It was at this time that the crew made their move to the WMF, Berlin's most respected club at that time, where they wound begin offering their weekly Friday parties. Week after week hard:edged steady rocked 1000 drum 'n' bass addicts, reaching standards in sound, video and style comparable to those of Metalheadz in London. It was nobodyâs surprise that the likes of Kemistry & Storm quickly became hard:edged monthly residents and artists like Bailey, Lee and MC Flux considered hard:edged a home away from home. Not to mention that every major figure in the drumân bass scene in Germany was eventually looking forward to their guest spot on a hard:edged line up.
The consistent hard work and methodology of the hard:edged residents and founders has, without a doubt, placed them at the front of the drum 'n' bass scene in Germany. This club-found success prepared hard:edged to begin expanding itself in more directions. Logically, the next progression included the founding of their own label, hard:edged music, which today is run by DJ Metro. DJs and producers in Germany who subscribed to the hard:edged perspective on drum 'n' bass eventually found their home with the new label. The first 12â came fast and a deal with international Distributors ensured tracks from X-Plorer & Dee Pulse, One:Soul, Hexer, Kabuki etc. the desired exposure in the UK. Soon the first compilation was released and became one of the best selling Drum 'n' bass compilations in Germany. The next Step in the progression, the first artist-album on the label, soon to be followed by a Remix EP by respected artists from all genres as Hefner, Pentagon, Sebo K. and others was released in 2002. Hard:edged has just moved out of WMF and built up their very own club called WATERGATE, which they run 3 days a week including the traditional hard:edged Friday night. Also the next hard:edged compilation is already in the pipeline, The Watergate Files Vol.1 is going to be a mix Cd by Dj Metro containing exclusive tracks from German and international artists that have been playing in the club since it's opening in late 2002. No doubt this is going to take h:e to yet another level...
