It is very unfortunate that Shelly Duncan used that phrase, but it is also unfortunate that we as a society have let Hitler's use of language and symbols change our view of what those words and symbols actually mean. The words and symbols and names are not inherently evil. It was Hitler who was evil.

@vrininger Um.... Ya know, if I painted a swastika on a wall, and claimed it was the hindu symbol for the evolution of the universe, I'd still be an asshole. Look, the phrase itself isn't the problem. It's what it's come to symbolize. I'm sure there are other Hitlers in the world, and Adolf is a pretty common Germanic name, but is it really a good idea to name your kid Adolf Hitler? Even if it's an old family name and it's tradition?

Sieg Heil means "Hail Victory" or "Hail the Victory". It is unfortunate that a simple phrase can come to mean something so different. Hitler was evil, and the Nazi atrocities are well documented, Unfortunately the phrase has come to symbolize the evil of Hitler and the Nazis. I don't know Shelly Duncan, but I choose (Hope) to believe that he meant the phrase in it's literal translation and not the symbolic one.
