The engine isn't "new", but I don't know how old it is (not so old thought...)
What's real cool is that the man who operates the engine is BLIND! He do it all by sound and touch (he have multiple engines, including a full, functional, airplane in his garden...)

Yes they still make these, both in the Ukraine and in China, and they are EAA certified if I remember correctly. They are not so much a copy of the Wright Cyclone; it is a much improved engine and is capable of making over 1000hp.

that engine is barely at idle, but i'd probably be nervous to rev up a 1000hp beast too

The thing is so powerful that even with the small test prop it could very well tip itself over if run too fast.
