Plain and simple it is one of the best BBC Micro games ever released. It featured an open exploration format, a range of creatures to interact with, a huge world to explore and even sampled speech.

Apologies for the dodgy sound synchronisation.

  • There was scarcely a more satisfying feeling than blowing that bird up with a handy grenade or two

  • that would be amazing, also if you find the original floppy there are people in the BBC community that i am part of that could turn them into disc images for use under an emulator for you. Elsewhere on this comment collection is my email address

  • Wow, I spent more time playing this game than any other on the Beeb. The physics were revolutionary for its day. I remember hacking it so I could pick up any of the game objects and put them in my inventory. Certainly made moving large/heavy objects around a lot easier! Robots too could be tucked away in the backpack and then disposed of somewhere out of the way.

  • @andy151270 - wow, I don't suppose you still have that hacked version still around somewhere? or could you recreate it? that sounds like a ton of fun - as well as making a jaw dropping youtube video.

  • The sound is way out of sync.

  • my apologies, it was recorded on a PC that was having problems recording from within the emulator. Check out my other BBC vids for better sound sync

  • That God-damned bird on the surface - that thing was my arch-nemesis as a child.

  • this game looks great, unfortunately I have no idea how to play it, but am planning on figuring it out eventually !

  • I bought this game with my pocket money when it 1st came out, happy days

  • @ChainsawGenie thanks. It's a pretty neat successor to Exile - just as difficult as the original was, too.

  • @zionravescene

I believe that there's a freeware game called 'Nameless' that plays the same way.

If you can't find or access exile(dot)ovide(dot)net, check the 'Platform Games' section at caiman(dot)us.

I hope you find the game enjoyable.

  • @aferenbach: I still have my collection of 5.25" floppies but the power supply on my Beeb died about 15 years ago, so I have no easy way of getting it back. If I remember correctly, and we're talking about something I did over 20 years ago, the hack was relatively simple so it might be quicker to recreate. Can't promise anything, but I'll fire up an emulator and have a peek.
