The Battle of Kursk refers to German and Soviet operations on the Eastern Front during World War II in the vicinity of the city of Kursk, (450 kilometres / 280 miles south of Moscow) in the Soviet Union in July and August 1943. It remains both the largest series of armored clashes, including the Battle of Prokhorovka, and the costliest single day of aerial warfare. It was the final strategic offensive the Germans were able to mount in the east. The resulting decisive Soviet victory gave the Red Army the strategic initiative for the rest of the war.

whishfull thinking about hypothetical situations. For a positive change for the Germans in WW2 quite many things would had to happen. Much of it would would had to be about "luck". Germany never was never about long wars. Already in 1941 when they lost around Moscow it was pretty obvious the war could not be won. And particularly not with 1943 with the USA, Britain and other nations on the side of the Allies. As said. The war would have only ended maybe around 46 or something

  • my grandfather survived this hell! and I'm proud that he still stands in front of me and makes jokes of the old times! you're the best, grandpa! =)

  • @celshad I agree, mANSTEIN surely was the genius...and if all failed maybe a peace would have happend

  • What is music? Thank you!

holding back an enemy for a long time. Kesselring proved this when the Allies landed in Italy. Even heavily outnumbered he could withstand the enemies for a long time, cause effective losses on their side and then fall back into another built up line which almost completely wore them off. For your interest the Russians did the same in the middle of the war which was also quite effective. So with a genius General it could have been possible.

i´m pretty sure it would. The Russians paid a tremendous toll. They even got a shortage in fighting men in late 1943 so that they had to drew women into the field. That´s why Molotov begged for a second front to Churchill and Roosevelt.Hiitler on the other hand lost precious men, machines and supplies when he ordered these useless offensives. Tiger tanks proved to be formidable obstacles on the open fields in Russia. A proper defensive can play a vital part, beating or....

  • @celshad it wouldn't have changed the outcome really If they followed Manstein or Guderian. It would have only prolonged the defeat the war for it self was already lost in 1942 once the German Reich declared war to the US and the Sovietunion started to use the full advantage of mass production as all of their factories have been completely rebuild deep behind the front out of reach for German bombers.
