  • @PurePerfection, excellent points. Many guys with higher seniority were bumped out of line.

  • @MrrG97 His Majesty Louis Alphonse de Bourbon IS the King of France weather your laws allow it or not.The rights of Louis XX de France are not given by the people but by His ascendency and the nobility of His God given rights. The only thing I could add is:GOD SAVE LOUIS XX KING OF FRANCE!!

  • @marym499 Louis de Bourbon would have been king. He would have been Louis XX de France.

  • Just to clarify, Jaime was the oldest surviving son of Alfonso XIII, the last King of Spain before the second republic, while Juan Carlos's father, Juan, was the youngest. This violates many inheritance laws, and while I wouldn't really seriously campaign for Louis XX to be additionally King of Spain, Louis XX has more of a case for the Spanish crown than Juan Carlos does for a possible French restoration.

  • @baraxor

Rightfully speaking, Louis XX should be King of Spain as well as France, but his ancestor Jaime declared himself and his descendants illegible for the throne due to his deaf-mute nature. While it's not such a big deal he didn't want to be King (and it was probably for the best), he, in my mind and indeed in many other interpretations, had no right to nullify his descendants right to the throne. This is why Juan Carlos is disdainful to this branch of the Bourbons.

  • @marym499 but in fact, more legitimacy has Louis of Bourbon, duke of Anjou, Maine and Turenne, direct descendant of Louis XIV.

  • Personally, I'd rather have Don Juan Carlos of Spain be Jean-Charles I of France (or of the French, whatever title the people wanted), as he's the first Bourbon monarch since 1788 not to embarrass his station and/or wreck his throne. Call me an Ultra-Legitimist!

  • It isn't a matter who has the strongest case dynastically, according to the modified Salic law and principle of primogeniture, it's a matter of who would be king according to the civil law.

The French Legislature refused to recognize Henri V in 1830, and acclaimed Louis-Phillipe the Duc d'Orleans as king. Likewise, when LP fled Paris in 1848, his lawful successor wasn't recognized and the Second Republic was proclaimed.

  • I wonder which would have the strongest case? Does the Comte live in Paris? just wondering.... this is very interesting.
