A quick review of my new Hammockgear.com Cuben Fiber Tarp. http://www.hammockgear.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22...
I love it!!!! 6.5 ounces before guylines and such. It does not come with guylines ...so choose and use your favorite.
So lightweight it feels like nothing and it is big. Was kinda thinking that I would not like the translucent aspect but it so cool looking through it at the trees, sky, stars and moon. Like looking through frosted glass. A bit brighter on the inside than my other tarps but for that kinda light weight....I will take that. Throw a shirt or something on top and all is mighty fine.
Cuben is the newest wonder fabric and is expensive. I am an old man and spend my money on lightweight gear to help lighten my pack load.....that plus careful packing.
All secure and lighter in sector seven,
Shug

  • I'm going to order my own cuben fiber and attempt to build one of my own...before spring..following SGT Rock directions and a Little help from my pops!!!

  • @TheTonyjara Right good! You'll love it.

  • hey shug! i do alot of winter camping (down to -30c) normally shelter and on the ground, but I have started into the hammocking thing and quite like it. I have yet to buy under quilts and such, and haven't purchased a roof as light weight as cuben.

just curious what your full pack weight is with food, under quilt etc. on a sold hike. I am heading out for a few days and I just weighed in at 45 lbs.

  • @simsghost It depends on the particular trip and weather and length of time....but I would say 25 to 28 pounds for a winter trip. I have invested in a good deal of lightweight gear. Weight would go up a bit in sub 0º...

  • ha! Another excellent review, Shug! Love the quick spanish skit. nice! how many times did you have to throw the tarp to get it to land in the hammock at the end??? ;-)

  • @teche70 Mucho Obligato....I got it on the first try....lucky.

  • After doing the Math...I've determined that the work involved and the cost of the materials to do the job myself would only provide me with Max $40 in savings..I'll just buy one from Stormcrow...I was hoping for at least 100 in savings.

  • @mediamst I have done a few.....thanks.

  • You could do commercials!

  • @bushbumming29 The cuben is surprisingly quiet.
