  • Fantastic video Jeff, I'm in Buderim and I planted up some ginger I got from the markets for the first time about 2 months ago - I've got 5 fantastic looking plants and your video has gotten me all excited about the harvest next year. Great stuff!

  • @colmonell293 Thanks for that col. I got 10 in this year but there a bit slow. some of them rotted, lucky I got some more root & got them started to replace the rotten ones. I'll be more selective next year. I'm hoping they'll be all up my the 1st. of december, to give them 3 good months to grow in plus whatever happens after feb. I got 3 galangal plants happening as well. Thanks again col. take care cheers for now.

  • @mugsyjeff Nice one, I'll be interested to hear how you go with the Galangal!

  • @colmonell293 Thanks col, I've been making this Thai soup using ginger as it's a cousin of galangal, but it tastes nothing like it. I got some fresh gal. from gradys at palmwoods, it was a bit old, I planted 4 only 2 shot, a lady I met at manawee gave me a cutting plus some extra to eat. It's really nice in the soup. I'm not sure if you saw any of my other uploads, I got some Thai insp. soup videos plus I've got all my Thai stuff in a little group in the vege patch. Thanks again. cheers

  • bought some ginger root a month ago and forgot about it , left it up in the cupboard , just realized that it was still there, i wondered if it went bad but found out that there was a couple of fat sprouts growing out from it , so now im going to leave it there a bit more and see whats going to happen maybe later i can plant it

  • @thebluebunny1 Thanks bluebunny, I notice your in Canada. It's best to wait till spring to plant ginger, maybe you could ask around to find out if anyone else in your area has success. We're at the start of spring here, so I'll be planting some soon. We're sub-tropical here, so the start of our spring is quite warm. You might have to wait a bit longer. Ah well, I hope to hear from you again. Take care. Regards Jeff.

  • I want to grow ginger this summer but I'm more impressed by the beautiful Monstera Deliciosa Plant in the background. Wow! In Kentucky I can't possibly grow one so massive in size.

  • @tgf76 Thanks for that tgf, I may not get them in by then, But they'll be well & truly in by the next moon. I just dug my lemongrass & planted a fresh plant & potted a few to share, should the occasion arise. I put it next to the kaffir lime, I'm going to plant the galangal not far from that. I'm keeping all my Thai stuff together. Well, thanks again tgf, I hope to hear from you again. take care. Regards Jeff.

  • @mugsyjeff No worries mate, Hey if you are going to plant some again soon wait till the the 27th&28th of this month as this is the best time to sow all root crops due to being the right phase of the moon. You'll find planting at this time you'll have a greater success rate and it will be up and sprouting in no time.

  • @tgf76 Thanks for that tgf, I was keen to use some in some cooking. I harvested the rest about 10 weeks later. I was pretty impressed with the result. I chopped it up & froze it. I put the skins aside for lemongrass & ginger tea, that works well. There was some sort of weevil in part of the ginger, so freezing was the best approach, I felt. I'm planting more in a couple of weeks, I have access to some fresh galangal, so I'll put some of that in also. Thanks again. take care. cheers for now.
