No it isn't, it is totally different. An artifact is pieces that are rendered incorrectly and or spots that are just out right missing. Tearing isn't the same because the initial image is rendered correctly and then refresh rates fail, causing the image to be display the same object image as fast as the frame rate is. The Result is a smudging effect, not distorted graphics, like triangular deformities, discolored pixels and stuff like that

there are some cases that Tearing happens with Heat but rarely. How do you tell the two apart? Articating will usually have green specals that just don't fit in. Purple is a common one too. more times then not you will see blocks similar to the pixelation found on a DVD movies in sections instead of the whole screen.

that isn't artifacting, thats Tearing. it's caused by overheating.
