  • Hello Dub, I have a question for you please.. Do you have to empty the ashes before you relight the pipe?it is said that you are going to have a better smoke if you do..What do you think?

  • @Dimitrispanayides

only if they're a lot of ashes,

usually about half way down the bowl.

  • Dub. Watching you take that little nip from the bottle of rum made me realize why I subscribed to you in the first place. Your knowledge is vast, your enthusiasm is contagious, and there is always one or two moments in each vid that make me smile. Keep it up. I'd love to have a pipe with you someday!

  • many thanks M72......I don't nip too much these days....drink the curse of the Irish and all that, glad you get to see the lighter side of my vids.

  • rubbing alcohol is ok, you need NON-denatured alcohol which rubbing alcohol is.

  • Hey buddy! Would you do a video on bowl stirring or bowl maintenance . I don't know how to manipulate the tobacco in the bowl very well to get the best results. You know, when to tamp, when to dump ashes, when to poke, when to relight for an even burn....should I turn the 2nd half of the bowl upside down? Just a thought, perhaps you'll teach some more stuff to us rookies.

  • Zan.. a really good question...I will do my best to answer it. But for now, practice, each pipe and tobacco is different...dub

  • What do you think of Mardio Grandi pipes and

  • Rum sounds like a great idea! You also mentioned coca cola in the beginning of the video ... how about cleaning pipes out with rum and coke? ;) To me that would be even more pleasurable to drink while cleaning. Hehe.

  • could you acually kinda soak your tobacco with the rum, like take flavorless tobacco and flavor it with rumm, if you could, can you explain to me how?, and will it to anything worse than regularly smoking a pipe would like hurting my body more?

  • @larshermanns Hi Lars, Probably good advice when someone is building a cake. Though the crystallized carbon matrix should not be damaged by alcohol. The resins will break down fast leaving the hard carbon matrix behind. That said, still better to only use alcohol inside the bowl after one has a sufficient cake.

  • I use a denatured that is 95% pure ethanol (the kind you drink) and 5% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) As long as there are no substances other than alcohol, denatured is fine. The idea is to have all substances with a low boiling point so that everything evaporates. In fact a denatured can be better than a 50-60% because there is less H2O which takes longer to evaporate, and does not address the hydrocarbon residue ( e.g. resins). Also, unlike liquor, pure alcohol won't leave residue..
