Evageline had a surgery this past Monday (March 14/11) to correct a narrowed aortic arch (happened during her development), the surgery went very well and she is recovering nicely. In the world of heart surgeries, this is one of the easiest, though scary for us, the doctors were confident from the start.

She had the surgery at the Stollery Children's hospital for Alberta, which is actually one of the best in the world. She was amazingly not in the hospital all that long, only two days in ICU, and then another 2 days in a regular hospital room.

For the surgery, they went in through her left side under her arm, so thankfully her scaring wont be so noticeable when she is older. The procedure was simple, they clamped and cut out the narrowed part, then sewn the other two parts together. It took a total of four hours.

As I said the surgery went very very well and Eva is already back to her cute, funny, beautiful self. These are some clips and pictures of before and after for memory.

    sounds good!

  • Aww...."What a awesome mummy!" Shay that is the most terrifying experience ever. Not just having something serious wrong with your baby...But then having to put your "Game Face" so she dont sense your fear no matter how positive the Drs are with the prognosis. And WHAT A WEE WARRIOR your daughter is. Look at her....just had heart surgery and not 48 hrs she's entertaining the nurses with that gorgeous smile. You made it! She made it! It's over! And "No can't tell she's irish at all! HUGS!

the game face was hard, actually in a number of pics and vids I was crying, so I didn't use them in this vid, I want eva to see it one day and don't want her to see me crying. She was a brave girl though right to the very start of it, even when the nurse took her away fro the surgery, she was smiling.... After she recovered really fast, only 2 days needed in the ICU, and only another 2 in the hospital, a total of 4 days, not bad for just having a heart surgery.... Hugs dear!

thanks dear, glad to hear about your cousin, heart surgeries are always scary. Eva is doing great, her's was an easy procedure, although scary, but she is as though she never had anything done...

  • oh my goodness she's just adorable : ) I see warm tones in that hair! hehe Kudos to you and yours for keeping strong, our family has been through this once too. Our cousin from India came over with a hole in her heart that had to be repaired and about 10 years later she's a happy and healthy kiddo.
