Russian navy 1, Somali Pirates 0

It took just 22 minutes for Russian sailors to free the tanker captured by Somali pirates. One pirate was killed during the rescue operation. Nobody hurt among the tanker crew and the rescuers.

My understanding is that the Russian captain put the pirates back on their ship and and sank it.

At sea, a ships captain is judge and jury. Piracy MUST be stopped, just like hijackers and highwaymen. The free flow of goods and people is essential for civilized life. It seems to me that the matter of what happens to the pirate should be left up to the ship's captain. If he wants to hang them, so be it!

I personally don't care whether the marines were Russian or Dutch. I hope the pirates were blown up as alleged. When a Somali elects to become a pirate on sea or land they elect to cede all human rights, leave the human race and die like the insects they have become. It is their choice and therefore their consequence.

@germanysjim - you know what Brits often do is either avoid them or if they can't do this board the pirate ship - take the weapons, and then and here's the kicker, they will hand out supplies and 'Aid' like medicine and clothes and food. Then the pirates will go on their merry way back home. The Royal Navy isn't what it used to be. The Russian navy is the terror of these neo-barbary savages.
