About 5¼ hours by car west of Paris, along the coast is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean. The east side of the peninsula with its beaches and bay, is renowned for sailing and windsurfing. The west side of the peninsula is a specimen of raw natural beauty; the wild coast, or côte sauvage, in French. Across the Quiberon peninsula and the surrounding sea, the wind never seems to stop blowing.
