This was totally awesome both from an entertainment and learning point of view. I am pro gun but with a love of nature and animals, this is the way I'll go when not hunting. You've sold me! Thanks!!

  • @maydayfire I used to think the same thing. firearms are not nearly as effective as the spray is. it is not about whether a .44 is a large enough round to put a bear down when placed in the right spot, it is about decreasing your room for error. Bear spray decreases your chances of error. Using a handgun increases your chance of error. If you are a backpacker chances are you do not want to pack a shotgun. Bear spray is still your best option. I will carry both but bear spray is first...

  • just use a pistol or shotgun, best defense ever against a bear.

  • It should be pointed out though that if a dog is running loose(I'm not saying you let yours)it may chase a bear or cougar and antagonize it into attacking, the result may be a dog running back to its owner with a highly ticked off animal chasing it.

  • rofl the bear baahahahahahaha... why not carry a 357 magnum or a 308 winchester :p just j/k I dont wanna kill smokey and this would be good to have with the family :p the bear spray
