Iaijutsu Cutting Tameshigiri Technique or Strength

Demonstrating the importance of technique over power in application.
When using a bladed weapon, the "Cutting" action is superior to striking. Less energy is needed and to a greater effect.

The title implies that "striking with brute strength" was used at least in some kinds of swordsmanship. This is completely wrong. No bladed weapon ever was used as a chopping tool, let alone european swords. You always need technique and skill to cut, even with a machete. Any edged weapon has to be capable of "draw cuts".

The notion that some swords (knightly swords for ex.) do not cut but chop and smash their way through targets is highly uninformed, coming from Hollywood and Renn Fairs.

@Protherium Hi. The point here only referes to this sword style,' But hopefully shows that even a slight deviation from the correct technique even with extra strength does not have the same effect and is likley to result in failiur.

We should improve technique rather than concentrating on putting strength into our practice.

Cutting, stabbing or even striking? Must depend on the situation.

Also, trying to understand all these variables in conjunction with our own technical ability raises Tameshigiri above being just a cutting exercise and enhances our Iai.
