I use Wine and its been doing great so far. Yeah there is a few issues and some stuff did not run in previous releases and then it works on the next release which is really good.
It's surprising how many applications are 'garbage', when we have extremely complex programs running in several categories of application (Photoshop, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, many Tier 1 games, utilities, etc.).
That said, there are so few garbage applications, it feels almost like it might evaporate over the next few years (after which Windows 7 and lower applications may be largely irrelevant).
WINE has come so far, and there's so far left to go. I wonder if it will ever end?

i think the whole wine code could be rewriten in c++0x and probably do some rewrites of some libraries
