A couple years ago, I heard a report about the dramatic increase in depression among teenagers because of the pressure to have physical relationships when they're not ready. For a lot of young girls, the sadness and anger that they feel drives them to physically hurt themselves, and contemplate suicide.

This story was so painful for me to hear, because it is also my own story.

I thought that having intimate relationships with guys was going to bring me love, but of course, it didn't. Instead I sacrificed my body for someone else's pleasure, and surrendered my self-respect and my innocence. Instead of being left with love, all I felt was confusion, shame and regret, and there was no one I could talk to. My life fell apart.

Everyone keeps encouraging people to rush into sex. But why? It is made to seem so glamorous and important, but is it really like that for most young people?

If you're in the same situation as I was, I really hope you can find strength in this song and be true to yourself, even if it means waiting a bit for the right person who will honor you and treat you with the respect you deserve.

FOR THE GUYS: This song is specifically about some people in my past who played a certain role in my life. I understand that the pressure on guys is equally challenging, and this song isn't targeting you. However, if you are like this with girls, then perhaps take this song as an insight into how they feel.
