It's about damn time! Finally, a new Golvellius video. :) This video shows off my new Map Editor. I needed a way to easily add objects and NPCs into the game. To solve this, I created an in-game map editor, where I can place objects and npcs in the world, in real time. In addition to placing NPCs, I can also edit the Lua script that gets invoked when the player interacts with this NPC.

The editor then exports all of the changes to a Scene XML file. Using my editor in conjunction with the Scene XML, I can create maps and environments SO much faster!

This was alot of fun to build, but now it's time to put this editor to work! Enjoy!

  • Wow, this project is very well developed Trufun202. I'm wondering (and this is the only video of yours that I've watched so you might have stated it elsewhere, but) how you got your models (I'm assuming they're in 3d?) and especially how they were animated?-- referring mostly to your main character. But again, a very nice project you have there

  • U R MY FAV HACKER

  • u know....it looks a realy realy old game but its good :)

  • Are you planning to distribute the editor to the public? If so, I would defiantly get it even if you charged for it!!

  • This is awesome! Can't wait to see more of this. Lua is great I think I've finally got to learn that too.

    Thanks!!

  • LINK PLEASE FOR THIS GAME !

  • Very cool stuff, man. Asset managing and level editing is possibly the least sexy part of game development. I've created a few tools for myself to edit sprites, but as for creating game worlds, I've restricted myself to text files that I parse and convert into binary format that the game can read. I also considered creating an interactive editor for my maps as well, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Come check out my channel for my game engine. I try to update it regularly.

  • Everytime I see it! DAMN! It's so awesome man! It's an inspiration! really man! check my new game man! It's not that Awesome! But I'm starting with OpenGL and it's my very first steps onto 3D heh

  • Really nicely done, the editor is really useful and convenient, and the in-game scripting is a really intelligent solution. 5/5 :)

  • interesting
