  • and they wonder why i quit playing organ in church......

  • @oblix137 Being a church musician is not an easy task. Technical skills, accompaniment skills, understanding of your instrument, constant learning of new repertoire (like a minister always studies), knowing history and background of both hymn and psalm tunes, taking on a leading and yet humble, serving position and attitude in the congregation, connect with colleages, attend professional development opportunities, stimulate and motivate the next generation of church musicians... and more...

  • The congregation is singing a few wrong notes in this hymn. The organist really needs to cut down the volume. It is too overbearing.

  • @Garselo - Excellent observations! We are practising this tune as it is a new tune for our congregation :-) That also results in the congregation to be hesitant at times, and the organist trying to provide support by not cutting back when the congregation need the support.

  • @frankezinga :if they didn't mess around with the BoP it wouldn't have been an issue and unneccessary .....the congregations were singing beautifully until then....now we get this "stuff"....

  • @oblix137 You don't seem to understand the reason for the changes, seeing your choice of words "mess around". You seem to suggest that no change is better... My grandfather had the same thought when rhythmic singing was introduced . Taking 2 minutes to sing one stanza was "the most beautiful congregational singing" and "messing around" with the Psalm singing was bad. With all respect, I am glad his opinion was not followed... and that we are singing rhytmically today!

  • @frankezinga ....at the current stage of the Church's development I would most heartily concur no change is better at this time....considering the motivation for the change(s) .....
