As the Holiday Season approaches Tahoe Locals and Visitors alike are treated to the changing colors and seasonal beauty our area has to offer. This is also the time of year Lake Tahoe businesses start getting ready for the holidays and the upcoming ski season. The artist Apollo has painted holiday windows, winter scenes, window murals and several wall murals at Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada area for over the past 35 years, including several casinos, resorts and restaurants. Apollo has been both a full and part time resident since 1974. After the Holiday season many of the local businesses leave Apollo's winter scenes up through the ski season, giving the town a festive winter ambiance.
Apollo has just completed a New Mural at the Tahoe Valley Lodge, located at Lake Tahoe blvd. and Tahoe Keys Blvd. on the south shore. The Lake Tahoe scene takes you to the ridge-top at Eagle Falls. Visitors relaxing in the resorts hot tub are transported to the edge of Eagle Falls overlooking Emerald Bay. The mural was extended upwards and the total length of the wall. The mural also seamlessly connects to the Mural Apollo Painted on Tahoe Keys Blvd. (Reflections of Serenity) in 2009. Apollo has several murals on the south shore including Heidie's Restaurant and Mountain Postal.
Apollo is one of the world's leading artists when it comes to murals. Apollo has painted several public murals in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno, and California. Apollo is Lake Tahoe's own; Internationally renown environmental artist. Apollo's art has circled the globe. His artwork has been reproduced on multiple products worldwide. Apollo's licensed artwork has been used by several fortune 500 companies including, McDonald's,Pacific Life Mutual, Hyatt Corp.,Caesars Corp., AT&T, Crabtree Publishing and more. During the 1990s Apollo was the official artist for the Honolulu Zoological Society. Apollo was the Featured artist at the very first ECO EXPO in 1991. In 2002 Apollo was chosen as the official Artist to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Undefeated 1972 17-0 World Champions the Miami Dolphins. In 2005 Apollo had his art featured in a show honoring Famous Living American Artists held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. In 2007 Apollo was invited by the Foundation for American Cultural Exchanges and the Chinese Government to teach at the Jilin Arts and Animation Institute, Changchun City, China. The Institute is one of the world's largest universities devoted to the Arts. After teaching and lecturing, Apollo was presented with an honorary Degree and made a Professor of the University. Apollo was sent on vacation by the university to tour China's most famous cultural sites. This summer Apollo was invited back to China. In 2008 Apollo was the featured guest on the one hour PBS show "Bridging Heaven and Earth" #227 . In 2009 Apollo was commissioned to paint window murals on the vacant businesses at the Factory Stores at the Y, South Lake Tahoe. In 2010 Apollo became the Environmental Art Director for Artists of America and inspired a program to help kids at risk called "Windows on the World" The mentoring program teaches kids and teens how to paint holiday windows, window murals and both interior and exterior wall murals. They are also mentored on how they can use their new talents for fundraising and as a business.
Even after 30 years on the international art scene with his fine art, Apollo remains a Local at heart, cares about the community and still does windows; Holiday Windows that is.
