Facing ostomy surgery for a second time, there is still a lot of fear and worry, but I have had an ostomy before, so I don't have the fear of the unknown. I do know what it's like, and I have an idea of what to expect. The second time going into this, I can take steps to fix what went wrong the first time.

As I am facing this, I'm beginning to wrap my mind around it, and I'm looking forward to the ways my life can improve with an ostomy. I know physically, my body will undergo changes, but this will become my new normal. I'm going to try to look at everything more positive. An ostomy won't hold me back. In fact, I think it will give me strength to hopefully do more.

For anybody facing ostomy surgery for the first time, second time or more, it is a life saving, health saving procedure. Don't let it change who you are. Look at it as your battle wound for fighting this horrible disease.

This is your hope for a better chance at life. Use it.

  • When u get an ostomy can you still pee? Do u still get ur period with one?

  • @leolionstarr The type of ostomy I have is an ileostomy, which means I can still urinate and I still get my period. Everything in my body works ok, but my small intestine is the only thing that is diverted to the outside abdomen wall. A Urostomy is when urine is emptied into a bag thru a continent diversion. That way bowels would be the same but urinating would not. I hope this makes sense! Thanks for the comment!!

  • Like, what a bummer that you are doomed to have your ostomotomy (reversal/removal of your ostomy) reversed back to an ostomy. Figuratively speaking, you will be left holding the bag. Here's to best wishes for everything to come out okay in the end. You go, girl!

  • oo ok thnx 4 the info!

  • With your positive attitude and will to fight, you'll do just fine! If having an ostomy again can give you your life back then just go for it! :) Keeping my fingers crossed and sending positive thoughts your way!

  • Awww! May Allah The Most High restore your health very soon, Ameen! You've been in my thoughts and prayers the second I've discovered you here, sis.
