Next step: Raytraced radiosity!
-
@rowdyusa1 Yeah and you can really notice the details when it's recorded on a camera aimed at a monitor.. :S

song

What song is this? It's really good.
-
How did they make that stargate?
-
it is; but such effects were available in Descent DOS game in 1994, nothing new absolutely
-
@shmeebegek1 It does, take a lot of processors, but that's how GPUs work, they process things on that kind of scale. Besides, when I said that, I meant per second.
-
@sivadfa A billion calculations per pixel 'eh? Processors for each pixel? Wow, a 1920x1440 scene with a hundred thousand triangles must take quite a lot of processors to render!
-
@Bp1033 Oh yah but it's pure PHYSICALLY CORRECT SHINYNESS PORN!

Crytek hasn't Said Anything about RayTracing being used in Cryengine 3,So You cannot say that it does.
It looks crap because the textures and models are the same as before, and the surface characteristics are presumably unchanged and therefore all the same. For raytracing to look good it's going to require much more engine changes than just the lighting model. But when that happens there will be efficiencies that raytracing makes possible which will demolish current graphics (gigantic scenes etc)
Part of it also is that current 3d cards have pushed the raster model so far that we are spoiled.

Now its shiny... and most likely needs a nuke powered über gaming computer to even get 20fps. BUT ITS SHINY!
