This video shows the resection of a large mandibular ameloblastoma. The extirpation of the tumor required a segmental mandibulectomy, which transected the inferior alveolar nerve. Both the nerve & mandible were reconstructed with a great auricular nerve & a titanium plate respectively. • what was the proximate size of this tumor? & was it close to the main artery?

  • @leabby1414 7cm's, which required removal of a portion of the jaw. It was sitting on the facial artery & vein, which are sizable vessels.

  • @Demagogue8990 Could you inform me if the pacient is ok.Is he depressed or he is fine?

  • @luisaheavymetal He's doing fine. He has moved to another state & is being followed by another team of doctors.

  • is there anyway they can do a suegery like that without any blood transfusions?

  • @leabby1414 they sure can; however, the tumor would have to be much smaller.

  • i think it's just because i'm young and currently in dentistry but OMF surgery seems like the most glamorous thing you can do from this side of medicine.
