I think you are completely wrong. Back in the 90s things were actually quite good. There was a lot of creativity, and values were firmly in place. And this happens to be a very good one-hit-wonder pop-song (and not manufactured either). You say the 'whole world got a little confused on values back then' - you need to open your eyes to how things now are, my friend. Back then, things were in their right place.

Vaughn heard this, thought there might be something in it and sent a copy of the original 12inch down to me in London. I played around for a weekend repitching it on the NED Synclavier system until we found the right speed for us and the cut. The rest is history. We sent it to the band, they hated it but the record company realised there was money to be made. They took my elements and combined it with the Original which was re-released. more.....

Well, I don't know when he remixed the track, but it would have been way after we made the commercial. The story is an interesting one. I originally had Prodigy "Out of Space" sunk to this spot but Vaughn Arnell, the Director, wasn't sure about it. He was in Manchester when he heard a radio spot by 808 state who were reviewing new releases, they played Babylon Zoo but didn't like the grungy aspect of it and as a joke sped it up from 33rpm to 45rpm. more......

@oonai5000 I have the 12 inch as well, I had it since it was released.I even remember the story behind the 12 inch single when it came out. Arthur baker wanted to put a mix with Jass Manns voice speeded up on the 12 inch but Jass Mann said he did not want his voice speeded up on a longer version. But the company pulled a sly one, by releasing a 12 inch with contained one track with the music slowed down, knowing everyone would just play it at 45. It is called Arthur meets the space man.

@simcut First of all I do remember seeing a TV programme all those years ago, that no one was interested in this song until Arthur Baker got a hold of it and speeded it up and mixed it...and viola...it was used in this advert, and people wanted this song when it was released, but unfortunately there was a lot of disappointed people when people found out that the whole song did not sound anything like this, only the beginning and the end. Arthur Baker was responsible for the fast part.
It's funny that I have both versions in my record collection. Before and after I got my hands on it.

@sonsandsons Very interesting story, I didn't know that. So I guess the folks from 808 state were the true inspiration for the classic sped-up version of the song, which most people seem to prefer. I can understand the band not liking it that someone else 'touched' their work, but it just sounds very good. Anyway, good job. In my opinion, this ad is the coolest of the Levi ads of the 90s and the music plays a big part.

Just to put the record straight. I sped up the track. My name is Warren Hamilton, I work in commercials at Wave Studios. At the time I was a sound designer at The Tape Gallery. Babylon Zoo hated it but money talks.
