French tire manufacturer Michelin has released its hotel and restaurant selections for the second editions of the Michelin guides for Los Angeles and Las Vegas for 2009.
The Michelin Guide Los Angeles 2009 features 343 establishments in all, a number that includes 310 restaurants representing 32 types of cuisine and 33 hotels. The Las Vegas guide features 140 restaurants and 32 hotels.
Among restaurants receiving stars, Las Vegas again garnered one three-star restaurant, Joël Robuchon; three two-star restaurants and 13 one-star restaurants. Four restaurants in Los Angeles were awarded two Michelin stars, including Mélisse, Spago, Urusawa, and new two-star restaurant Providence. Sixteen restaurants in Los Angeles were awarded one Michelin star. No Los Angeles restaurant has received the highest rating of three stars.
For the first time, the Michelin Guide Los Angeles also includes the Bib Gourmand category, featuring 26 restaurants serving a meal for $40 or less.
One Michelin star means a very good cuisine in its category; two Michelin stars mean excellent cuisine, worth a detour; and three Michelin stars mean exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.
