@moogug Look at what built the ISS and carried all the components into orbit. The shuttle was the only vehicle ever built with that size of cargo and lifting capacity. Without it there would be no ISS. The Soyuz barely has room for 3 astronauts.

Unlike Apollo and Soyuz, This is the only orbiter made that CAN be used over and over again.
And besides if NASA was still using Apollos, How the heck will it be able to dock and make the station without a robotic arm? Before you say something really negative think about what other would say.

this is the first space shuttle ever launched.....the fuel tank is painted white.....the oher fuel caps lost the white paint cause of the weight ....3000 pounds of white paint...lol...

@Boomshanka2000 I believe so, they were also conservative on this landing because they had miles and miles of open desert. In Florida they have to get it stopped from 220 mph in 3 miles.
