Green MEP Rebcca Harms and Green Member of the German Bundestag Hermann Ott discuss the need for Europe to take the leading role in Climate negotiations and to lead by example at home.
Europe must aim high with it's own emissions reductions at home, cutting them by at least 30% by 2020, a position supported by environment ministers and opinion polls across the continent. Their governments must now step up and take this challenge. Meanwhile, recent elections may now delay indefinitely any agreement that would involve the United States. Agreements must therefore now be found to move forward with countries like China, India and Japan. Europe leading by example at home would bring much needed credibility back into these negotiations.
