You wrote that "people rave" in the first place. I can't comment on what you otherwise write. Except, one has to notice that asking WHY play football is essentially the same as asking WHY lift weights. WHY not Track&Field? WHY not making the world a better place? Seriously: why?

@DrinkAndNeverAskWhy If players do poor form BP's and I so state, it's not raving. If their miserable record of letting con men manage their millions is stated, that's not raving. News of players acting like hooligans saturates the news and has for generations. I especially favor Tebow who goes 1,000's of miles out of his way to sexually mutilate boys overseas. Kurlovich & Company yes, football players "no." Lifting is safer & makes bodies stronger. WHY play football?

@skirts365 No, not yet arrested. I don't even drive, as strange as it might seem.

@skirts365 See? People rave, that's the point. This has nothing to do with the reality of the sport/game. I can't comment further on your allegations about AF players getting drunk and such, but that sounds like a wrong generalization to me,

@skirts365 "DrinkAndNeverAskWhy" Christ, even your user name suggests irresponsible behavior. All the young boys who dropped dead at football practice due to no screening for heart defects, have a heat stroke or broken neck, are all so lucky they chose sweaty stupidity over lifting a bar overhead. Have you ever been arrested for DWI? If not, maybe they should start FOLLOWING you to prevent some kids losing their mother! I employ kid next door on condition he lift & NOT play FB!

@DrinkAndNeverAskWhy Team sports minimize individuality. Herd mentality is bad for society. A lifter who sets a national or WR gets spotlight to himself far more than to a team. A team can play brilliantly, 1 dummy can wreck the contest for them. Hell, there's even a woman now who lifted 412 pounds overhead from the floor, how many players can do it? They get drunk at bar, speed, and cause FATALITIES they can't stay out of trouble because they're worthless BAN FOOTBALL!
-
@DrinkAndNeverAskWhy Boring depends on perspective. People rave about how strong players are, their benches are usually severe cheating style, Larry Allen seen in video doing 225 x 43, and he allegedly did 700 x 1? The 225 set MIGHT be a 510 for one. Let's see what the players can snatch, jerk, etc. I do NOT like football players, they're stupid, LOSE MONEY, promote men slurping beer and getting fat, football gets 200 X more attention than scholastics = STUPID society!
-
@skirts365 and we have an Arthur Drechsler writing a whole Weightlifting Encyclopedia where he really feels the need to specify that "it is not true that Football Players are stronger than Weightlifters!" and still here we are in 2012 commenting a 215kg snatch like "take it football players".
-
@skirts365 I don't really see how the baddest football players could easily be bulldozed by anybody in a football match, they're trained to bulldoze the other baddest football players in the field, of just about their own BW, just as Olympic Weightlifters are trained to snatch +clean and jerk. Seems like Football players can supposedly snatch 214kg and here you are in 2012 like "hey, here's a 215kg snatch! Take it football players!" Your comments are always of this kind, and they do get boring.
Alexander Kurlovich was truly one of the great supers, but unsung in following Alexeev and without the flash of Pisarenko or Taranenko. A fantastically solid and dependable, all-round performer! An unassuming guy who quietly set 12 world records. He always made a very high percentage of his lifts. Behdad of Iran recently snatched a WR 214 after the expulsion of the old records, but that is still below Kurlovich. 2-times Olympic Champion,....4-times World Champion......cheers to you, Alex!
