On all other metro system you don't need to pay extra but you need to pay more if you want to switch between lines in Dublin!

Dublin is too small to be in need of a metro.

Trams are all it needs . Multiple lines , not 2 like it has now (3rd world)

Building tram lines only cost a fraction of a massive metro costs .

Actually Japan is the highest paid per capita in the world, Ireland isn't. You can be sure that their transport system isn't expensive.

Anyway the ticket prices don't reflect anything. If Dublin had a proper, integrated transport system we'd have no problem paying high ticket prices

And if Ireland is one of the highest paid per capita, wouldn't you expect an equally good transport system?

Yeh we should really invest in our tram network (not) just leave it with the buses and yeah because right now Ireland is so great financially that we have excessive amounts of money to spend on public transport.

@antiluas London's metro is around 405 km long. The suburban rail system (mostly above-ground, but grade separated) is about the same length.

Typical whinge. Most EU countries heavily susidise their public transport networks. The problem with the Irish is that they want everything they see on the continent but aren't willing to pay for it. Solution = more tax and/or put the near 50% who don't pay income tax back into the taxation system.

Today another damning report into the investigations surrounding Irish Rail and safety issues concerning the collapse of the Malahide Viaduct. Basically just by sheer luck Irish Rail got away with slaughtering a 1,000 commuters. The litany of incompetence and shody work practices at Irish Rail are shocking. Yet reports on CIE companies come out like this every few years. Irish Rail pay huge salary to train drivers. Service is shit, slow and dangerous.

Still think Luas is expensive? It works!!!!

Luas is great for one reason. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CIE.

The trams are reliable and work great. How really "expensive" is Luas compared to all of the CIE horrible services and they decades of strikes and industrial disputes, work-to-rule and Union walk outs over no Kit-Kats in the CIE canteen.

Luas may be expensive, but it is a baragin compare to what the shite CIE offers in terms of public transport in Dublin.

Dublin Bus drivers go on strike is a bus stop is moved 10 meters.

@lightleader2 still havent been caught by the way. nearly got caught at beechwood last week but luckly ive been watching loads of wrestlemanias so im a dab hand at double close lines, i even Irish whipped one back on to the luas , gardai arrived before i had the chance to do a suplex but next time thats the first move I pull out.
