House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD (just outside of Washington DC) is a dealer for Bob Gramann acoustic guitars. Here we have Mark Sylvester, one of our teachers, demonstrating the #27 Maury model guitar. It features an Englemann Spruce top, Honduran Rosewood back & sides, Macassar Ebony fingerboard, East Indian Rosewood bridge & trim, and a Mahogany neck. The Maury is the size of a Martin Dreadnought except the waist is pulled in to make the notes sound more clearly. The guitar has a rich, bright tone & a fast neck.

Bob Gramann builds guitars in Fredericksburg, VA. He delights in the results of careful thinning, bending, and finishing of fine woods. Most important is achieving such a rich, full sound that it is loud enough for performances without amplification. Amazingly, even tiny adjustments can enhance both tone and volume, producing a responsive instrument that feels good to play. Building these "live" guitars has become almost an obsession. He builds only a few instruments each year, so he always tries to build something he would want to play.

Price on this model is $3,000, which includes hardshell case. To inquire about purchasing, please contact HMT directly at hmtmail@hmtrad.com or 301-270-9090, or visit our website at www.hmtrad.com. For more information on Bob Gramann, visit www.bobgramann.com.

On this video Mark is playing two original selections from his CD "Music For Solo Guitar." The first is called "American Gypsy Pt 2;" the second is "I'll Not Be Weary." Tab for these songs is available at www.marksylvester.net.

Video produced by Glenn Tucker with audio engineered by HMT's in-house engineer and pro audio repairman Trevor Higgins.
