Ok, well me and my friend have been dreaming about the "tuna shooter" for years. Basically there is a drawbridge that a boat is passing through and sometime during that the tuna is launched over the top like a fieldgoal, and preferably on to the hood of some randomn car. Far fetched, but it would be the greatest thing ever.

Someone suggested thar I destroy a snowman for a Christmas video. Do you have any better ideas? I really don't know where I would find a tuna to launch.

Special request: can you shoot a tuna fish with that thing??? If not there's your next challenge: shoot a tuna fish 75 feet in the air. THIS HAS TO HAPPEN SOMETIME IN THIS WORLD. ...AND YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN
What circuit are you using to trigger your SCR? I'm building a smaller version of this unit for a tech-fest. I miss read the datasheet and fried a 5000 amp pulse capable SCR by putting the charged voltage to the trigger. It worked for a couple of test firings, but fried when I reached 120 volts.

I just used a 1 k resistor. the schematic is on my blog at bobdavis321 at blogspot

why do you need a resistor anyways? Too much voltage going into the capacitors?

Yes, and you need to charge them slowly.
