Hugh Sung, pianist and host of the "Clair de lune from Scratch" video piano lesson series ( http://pianofromscratch.com ), discusses the limitations of entry and mid-range digital pianos, and how the virtual piano program Pianoteq by Modartt ( http://pianoteq.com ) enables an unprecedented level of musical expression. Dispensing with 1980's sample-trigger technologies that hamper digital keyboards, Pianoteq actually models the physics of the piano sound components in real time. Tone, color, and textural effects are now possible with the Pianoteq program, along with an incredible array of instrument customization and virtual recording tools.

Hugh demonstrates the expressive capabilities of the Pianoteq virtual piano in a performance of Debussy's masterpiece, "Clair de lune".

Pianoteq is available for immediate download for Mac, PC, and Linux computers.

  • Great interpretation! I compose a lot of midi piano classical pieces. Do you think that Pianoteq would be a good program for recording my midi pieces and then converting them into wave files? Thanks again.

  • @pianotuner101 Thank you, and absolutely, i think Pianoteq would be a great recording tool for your compositions

  • is there a specific type of keyboard that pianoteq supports or just any digital?

  • excellently presented. This video deserved FULL HD sound though. Enjoyed it none the less however - great! :)

  • Remember this song is supposed to have a lot of air on it. Like you were playing it in a field while watching nature doin its thang while you played a tune that themed to it locking it forever in place with the creator. Not in a mental health center while looking at crazy people laugh at it. IDK it's still digital although it does sound a lot like todays ivories I still would tinkle all over it. lol more bass tackle the highs flat on top then move the mics away and let it all go to hell.

  • Wow you played Clair De Lune perfectly

  • stfu and play already . Nice video..

  • I'm sure you could do an amazing piece of artwork only using 3 colors of crayons. It's all about smudging and blending, surely it can be done! Think outside the square!

Haha, I'm kidding, great video, well presented!
