Here is a quick demo of the Zoom H2 recorder on cello. After much experimentation with it's setting, I was able to get this sound. The mics are very sensitive and require accurate levels to get the sonic details without clipping. Luckily the Zoom has effective compression and limiting features. Amazing results when you consider it's portable and under $200! I'm playing the minuets from the 1st Bach cello suite.

  • Original Zoom audio file sounds better than this. Some fidelity is getting lost when combining the audio and video files. I used Windows Movie Maker. Can anyone suggest better Video Editing Software?

  • I noticed there's a "hissing" sound when the cello is played. I wonder if that is due to the sound file compression when making the movie, or whether it is caused by the new microphone itself.

Other than that, the recording is very clear. I can even hear your fingers tapping on the fingerboard. It also captured some of the dynamics. It is definitely a handy portable recording device if you don't have your computer with you. I assume you can play back using headphones?

  • @tubbie0075 Thanks for the input. I was running the H2 as a USB mic, direct to my PC. I'll post another music vid with the Zoom as a stand-alone recorder.

  • its amazing how just one instrument can sound so beautiful alone.

  • Excelent! Sounds Amazing... Very nice piece, Well played!

  • ...ja der Zoom ist spitzenmäßig, aber natürlich auch toll gespielt...

  • Hey, I just got a Zoom H2 for recording my own cello playing. Are there any settings you recomend for recording cello?

  • BRAVO!!!

  • Sounds good to me, very articulate and pure. I don't hear much distortion.

  • I think the sound is great. I didn't get the "hissing" noise that tubbie0075 heard. I could hear the finger tapping and an added nuance to your sound I've never heard before.

I did, however, pick up your own vocals when you were really into it. That was new as well. I hope you understand what I'm talking about.

Anyway, sounded great, which you always do, only we can hear more of your beautiful music.

    Hope this helped.

    Robert P.
