Nvidia GTS 450 Review: GTS 450 vs ATI 5770 vs 5750

Find out how the Nvidia GTS 450 stacks up against the ATI 5770?

The GTS 450 is NVIDIA's lowest price Fermi graphics card to-date and is focused directly at at playing games at mainstream resolutions. The GTS 450 is the directx 11 replacement for the GTS 250 and new competitor to ati's 5750 and 5770. With this card Nvidia is attempting to regain market share in the budget gaming segment.

According to the reviews on major tech sites such as tweaktown, legit reviews overclockers club and neoseeker the GTS 450 is between the ati 5750 and 5770 in terms of performance.

As of today, Newegg and other online retailers have the prices of at $US119 for the ati 5750, $US129 for the GTS 450 and $US139 for the ati 5770. This current price point is appropriate considering the GTS 450 achieves on average a performance level between the two ati cards in this segment.
However the 5750 and 5770 have been on the market for nearly one year giving ATI plenty of time to achieve economies of scale and economies of experience in the production process. Given this I believe ATI can afford significant price drops to these cards and will likely to announce a new pricing strategy with further price drops in the next few days.

With the GTS 450 we get a compact, low noise, cool running card which often exceeds the performance of the 5750 and on occasion exceeds the 5770. However the ATI competitors have been in market for close to year and the GTS 450 does nothing special by being late to the party
Anyone looking to upgrade from their ati 4850 or gts 250 is likely to be disappointed as their is very little performance incentive to upgrade.
If you are building a new budget gaming system and want direct 11 compatibility then you should defiantly take into consideration the GTS 450, but only if it is significantly cheaper then the ATI 5770.
