  • But you gotta be mature as a person, too, and realize that brass is a disciplined regimen like Taiji (mental, physical - spiritual if you like, too, in that chi or prana sense - and Woody Shaw, one of the dopest EVER, actually included Taijiquan in his practice - check that cat out on Youtube w/ "The New Land" - sick!). Point is, every practice session will yield improvement - and you SHOULD feel fatigue every time you are improving your range.

  • Another thing that works great is checking out a simple little book by John O'Neill called "Jazz Method for Trumpet". Has a CD w/ a cat named Steve Waterman playing. The very first track is a lip buzz w/ the next one being mouthpiece, and then reference notes G, F, and E. G will be your trumpet w/ no valves held down. The mouth, the mouthpiece, and that first G will all be the same. So put one of those tracks on repeat and practice that until you can get a mosquito tone that matches up.

  • One thing that works well starting out is getting open headphones and listening to trumpet while you buzz. Something clicks when you keep in mind that much of what you here is simply buzzing and when your buzz harmonizes with some note, it automatically smooths out, as the vibration in your head synchronizes. Worked for me.

  • Right?! It's that simple and that's it. Thing is, I noticed a lot of peeps on here mentioning how they've tried it and failed, or that they sound crappy - buzzing w/ mouth alone seems deceptively easy, right, but that perfect execution is the result of calisthenics. Because the muscles involved are relatively small, it is often overlooked how much conditioning goes into excellent sound production! But have faith: w/ dedicated practice, each day gets easier.

  • Daaang dude O.o you're perfect.

  • @calibam2045 Keep practicing at it, you'll get it!!!!!

  • This guy is just unreal.

  • How long does it take to be able to buzz? So I could be learning how to buzz for 3 years before I even picks up my trompet??

  • good buzzing

  • @jenito101 Ditto! :D
