@gmcfixer62 Though I'm neither a soldier nor a policeman, my job places me in a very dangerous situation, we are juicy targets for robbers armed with weapons ranging from AKMs to M14s to G3s and many other weapons and equipments (like steel plated armor) the black market has to offer, considering their firepower, ruthlesness and greediness we need to match whatever they can bring to put us down. at the end of this year if my agency doesn't replace our issue CAR-15s I will find another job.

As to why was it so bad, the stock was flimsy and the lock would stick when moving it from colapsed to extended. As I said, many of the colapsing stocks in the early 90s where junk.
I use CAR-15 for security work, riding on armored car along with 3 other crewmates transporting currencies and many other valuebles from one location to another, often times we travel hundreds of miles outside the city. I'm not particularly confident with this weapon but sadly i'm pretty stuck with it, i hope our agency will instead issue us FN FALs available in our inventory.

@commybuster - Why specifically are you not confident with it? The gun does have limits as with any others. It comes down to having the right weapon system for the right role, along with the right ammo. You said outside the city, if we are talking outside Topeka, Kansas that is no big deal, but if we are talking outside Bogota, Columbia its a different story. Most people think an AR is an AR and they are all the same, depends if its a recreational gun or a business gun.

A recreation gun can be put together and is just fine as long as its not for competitive or combat/defensive shooting. But if its a business gun (defensive/combat/competition) higher standards do need to be held. I also would not suggest using 55 grain bulk ammo for a business gun. Now if you feel the FAL is a better choice then I am guessing either you are concerned with people with heavy arms or you need to penetrate their protective gear (vest, armored vehicle.)

good ammo, much better than 62 grain ball

@DivideBuyZer0 ... As with any rifle the barrel's rate of twist is a major determining factor on the bullet weight and shape. In a barrel with a 1 in 9 twist 62 grain ammo can shoot well, a 1 in 7 twist barrel its not going to shoot as well with a 62 grain bullet. In that gun with its 1 in 9 twist it tends to do best with 69 grain Sierra HPBTs or Hornady 68 grain HPBTs, if I use 55 grain cheap stuff (very rarely) accuracy is effected adversely.
