Lexeme is an exercise in self-diagnosis, a visual representation of individual process with the medium of moving image. Specifically, the work addresses the troubles often faced when attempting to engage with film or video from a conceptual point of departure. The act of production creates noise through which the truth of an idea may be lost. Filmic tropes are used as barriers to obscure emotional honesty, the tactile process of film becomes an escape, language complicates thought, and the camera apparatus becomes a translation device that consumes the truth. Represented as an experimental video essay through text, textures, and moving images, Lexeme provokes a unique personal space of reflection on the relationship of artist to medium.
